Born To Fight (1989)

Reporter Marilyn Kane(Mary Stavin) hires Vietnam vet Sam Wood (Brent Huff) as a guide for their trip to Vietnam. Of course things are not what they seem, Kane has actually hired Wood to help her to get her father out of Vietcong prison camp. Let the mayhem begin!

Hell yeah! Our hero Sam Wood is snake venom drinking bad ass! He always have a cool one liner after he takes out bad guys. Movie was somewhat slow in the middle part , but the ending was all out hut exploding mayhem (same hut was shown blowing up at least dozen times...). Recycling in Mattei style.

I have to say that Brent Huff has became one of my favourite actors in this Filipino madness. Well sure, his acting skill are somewhat questionable, but so what. He is just perfect for these kind of roles. You know, he has that certain "Hand him M-60 and he will bring those boys back from prison camp" -element in him.

Directed by the maestro Bruno Mattei and yeah, he delivers in spades with this one.

Robowar (1989)

"BAM?" "Big Ass Motherf**kers!"

Bruno Mattei puts Predator and Robocop into the splinder and out comes Robowar!

Story is pretty simple: Elite squad (BAM) is send to jungle to hunt down robot that has become loose cannon. Exploding huts and lots of guns fights. So we get everything that Filipino jungle movie should deliver. Basis of the story is lifted from the Predator and in the end we get the Robocop moment or should i say surprise.

Do the robot talk! Everytime i hear the robot "talk" it just cracks me up. Also the robo-vision it totally from the '80, bad pixalated computer graphics.  But hey! This movie totally rocks: Bad ass characters (most of them straight from the Predator), '80 hard rock and cheap special effect. One can't ask more from a good movie!

Strike Commando (1987)

"He is not an ordinary soldier, he's a one man war machine!"

Bone-fide Bruno Mattei classic.

Sgt. Mike Ransom in operating behind the enemy lines and is left for dead by his commanding officer. Fighting his way back to safety, he learns that Russians are also in the area. He has to go back behind the enemy lines to get proof of the Russian. He is then captured  and tortured. But he escapes and learns that there is also traitor in his own ranks. In the end he takes out all the suckers. He takes out the traitor with grenade launcher, epic!

Good Ol' cold war setup here, USA versus Soviet Union (rip). I can't even remember how many films i watched in the '80 with this cold war set-up. Evil CCCP always got theirs asses blown off at the end. The fall of Soviet Union must have been huge blow for the action movie industry.

One of the classic moments come when a dying child ask Ransom to tell about America and Ransom, in tears, starts to tell about pop-corn that grows in trees and genie that grants all wishes...

Highly recommended actioner. Grap your M-60 and let it rip!
