Black Cobra aka Cobra nero (1987)

Young photographer sees her neighbor murdered and manages to take a picture of the killer. Now this gang of biker bad-asses wants the pictures back and girl dead. Detective Malone (Fred Williamson) is put on the case to protect the girl.

Fred Williamson delivers some really cool one-liners and is just perfect for this role. Shaft of the '80s? Yeah, we all know that film's plot is pretty much "borrowed" from the Stallone's 1986 film Cobra. I think that the budget was not the biggest one in the film history, you can see the boom mike in couples of scenes. But so what, there enough action to keep you entertained for 90 minutes.

Directed by Stelvio Massi (co-directed by Umberto Lenzi), best known for his excellent crime films: Emergency Squad (starring always brilliant Thomas Milian), Convoy Busters (starring another icon from italian cinema, Maurizio Merli) and many others.

Black Cobra series run for 4 films. Last one, titled Detective Malone, is said to be directed by the great Umberto Lenzi, but this might not be case because the man himself has denied to have anything to do with that film.

Great write-up. Always wanted to see the Black Cobra series. Fred Williamson is always entertaining.

Technically, there's only 3 Cobra Nero movies. The 4th one is just a cut & paste flick using footage from all 3 movies. Fred Williamson didn't even know a 4th one existed until someone told him how terrible it was.

@Ty: Thanks, yeah Fred Williamson is the man. Just watched Fulci's "New Gladiators" where he is kicking ass also.

@raculfright_13: Yeah, i read that 4rd installment uses lots of footage from previous movies (and that it is a pretty damn awful movie...). I thought that they used also some new footage (incorporated with "Fred Williamson scenes" from the previous movies)

Black Cobra 2 and 3 reviews coming up soon.
